He is horror fiction’s jazz virtuoso, an artist who continually strives to give shape to the ineffable, to channel the inexpressible, and to give form and meaning to that uncontainable force that is the essence of creativity itself. We regret we cannot honor Mr. Straub in public at an assemblage of his peers and admirers where well-deseerved vocal and visible acclaim could be offered. But we urge you to at least read this tribute in order to understand why Mr. Straub is so deserving of being named a Living Legend and of any and all other honors he has received and, no doubt, will receive in the future.
